Houston is serviced by the Metropolitan Transit Authority Of Harris County (METRO), which provides two types of public transportation; METROBus and METRORail.
METROBus has several types of bus service: Local, Express, and Park & Ride.

Local Service runs mostly on city streets, stopping at every other corner along its route. One-way fare is just $1 or you may purchase a $2 Day Pass that gives you unlimited use of Local Service for 24 hours from the time of purchase.
Express Service travels up to six miles along its route with no stops. One-way fare is $1.50 during morning peak hours (5 - 9 a.m.), $1 for midday service (9 a.m. - 3 p.m.), $1.50 during afternoon peak hours (3 - 7 p.m.) and $1 for evening service (after 7 p.m.).
Park & Ride Service is for long-distance commuting. METRO's 25 Park & Ride lots provide bus service to key destinations in the service area. One-way fare falls into four zones based on the distance a bus travels: Zone 1-$1.50; Zone 2-$2.50; Zone 3-$3; and Zone 4-$3.50.
The Texas Medical Center (TMC) Circulator fare is $1 and may be paid with exact change (bill or coins), any valid METRO time-activated pass, tokens, a valid transfer or a TMC "flash" pass. TMC trolley fireboxes cannot make change or issue transfers.
METRORail is a 7.5 mile long light rail route connecting commuters to Downtown, Midtown, the Museum District, the Texas Medical Center, Reliant Park and the South Fannin Park & Ride. With frequent service and the capacity to carry up to 400 passengers per trip, METRORail will help cut through congestion in these heavily traveled areas.
